Modded Switch

You’ll need a homebrew app to dump your save to your SD card. This guide uses Checkpoint, JKSV works too but the steps differ slightly.

  1. Start any title on your Switch while holding R to open the Homebrew Menu.
  2. Scroll to Checkpoint and launch it.
  3. Use the D-Pad to navigate to Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream and press A.
  4. Press A again on New… to name your backup.
  5. When the dump finishes, press + to exit Checkpoint.

Checkpoint writes the backup to your SD card under switch/Checkpoint/saves/0x010051F0207B2000 Living the Dream/, in a folder named after the backup you just created.

  1. Open USB File Transfer from the Homebrew Menu and plug your Switch into your computer.
  2. Browse to switch/Checkpoint/saves/0x010051F0207B2000 Living the Dream/.
  3. Copy the folder named after your backup over to your computer.

Inside you’ll find:

Player.sav
Mii.sav
Map.sav
Ugc/
├── UgcCloth000.canvas.zs
├── UgcCloth000.ugctex.zs
├── ...

The Ugc/ folder is only present if you’ve created a UGC in-game, if you haven’t yet, it probably doesn’t exist.

Open ltdsave.app and drag the three .sav files (and, optionally, the Ugc/ folder) onto the page. See Loading saves for what happens next.

When you download the patched save from the editor, you’ll get a zip containing the same filenames. Extract it and overwrite the files inside the Checkpoint backup folder on your SD card, keeping the folder name the same. Then back on your Switch, open Checkpoint, pick Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, select your edited backup from the list, and choose Restore to write it back over the game’s save data.
