How the proposal system works

When two Miis are a couple, marriage doesn’t happen on a fixed timer. The proposal is one of the troubles a Mii can roll, so it is re-evaluated every time the game tries to generate a new trouble for that Mii. If the right conditions line up, the proposal is eligible to be the trouble that gets picked, but it still has to win a random roll against everything else.

A proposal can only be selected when all of these are true at the moment a trouble is rolled:

  • The tutorial is finished - GraduateEarlyStage has been cleared, which in practice means you have 6 or more Miis.
  • The pair is in the Lover state - the two Miis are officially a couple.
  • Friendship meter is high enough - the proposing Mii’s meter toward its partner is at least 140 (the “wants to marry” status). During the post-falling-in-love boost window this threshold drops to 100.

If any of these fail, the proposal is simply not a candidate for that roll.

Once the preconditions pass, the proposal competes as a Relation-category trouble. There is a freshly-in-love bonus: in the 36 hours after the two became Lovers, the per-roll chance of the proposal being the selected trouble is higher.

Time as LoversNot living togetherLiving together
Less than 36 h~22%~27%
36 h or more~13.5%~17%

These are per-roll chances, evaluated each time a trouble is generated for the Mii, not a one-time check.

If the pair has been eligible for 19 days without a proposal ever spawning, the proposal becomes a priority trouble. The next time a trouble check runs and the preconditions match, it should be forced to show up. So while the system is random in the short term, it will not leave an eligible couple waiting forever.

If a proposal does spawn and then fails, there is a 12-hour cooldown before the proposal can be generated again for that Mii.

  • Depression and fights take priority. If the Mii enters a depressed state or gets into a fight with another Mii, that trouble outranks the proposal and will be chosen instead, blocking the proposal for that roll.
  • Spending too much time together can backfire. Trouble bubbles don’t appear while two Miis are doing an activity together. If you force an eligible couple to constantly hanging out, the game gets fewer chances to roll the proposal, so it can take longer.
Proposal trouble selection

To make a proposal happen as quickly as possible:

  1. Make the two Miis roommates before they fall in love, so the “move in together” trouble doesn’t compete with the proposal trouble.
  2. Solve their troubles as soon as they appear so that the game re-rolls the next one sooner.
  3. Leave them alone - keeping them talking with other Miis or their partner will prevent the trouble from spawning.
  4. Keep them happy - If they enter a fight or a depression state, solve it, otherwise the proposal can’t fire.
  5. Solve other troubles - The game limits how many troubles can exist at the same time.

It’s still random, but even if you are unlucky, the game will force the proposal once the pair has been eligible for 19 days.
